Per the 2010 census, Brevard County is the 9th most populous county in Florida with approximately 543,400 residents. Despite that statistic, Brevard County had no active chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. After years of Zeta’s voice not being heard in Brevard County, in 2011 it was decided that it was time for that void to be filled.
Six determined Zetas ready to exercise their love for their national organization came together to establish a new chapter in their county of residence. As diverse as any six ladies can be, their shared passion for their beloved sorority fostered a bond among them. This connection would propel the group to take extraordinary measures to solidly plant and grow Zeta in Brevard. Before the chapter was officially chartered, these ladies had already found themselves functioning as a group to support other Greek organizations in the area, developing a team for the American Cancer Society (ACS) Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk, gearing up for ACS’ Relay for Life, and facilitating a Thanksgiving Food Drive by partnering with a local church to prepare, sort, and distribute HOT Thanksgiving meals to the county’s needy. Like a Florida Hurricane, these ladies have made their presence in Brevard County known.
On November 2, 2012, our group was named: Omega Omicron Zeta. Then a month later, on the 2nd of December, the chapter was formerly chartered. The dream of Zeta in Brevard was realized. The charter members are Donna L. Washington, Gina Nater, Allenna Mauge, Yolanda Martinez, Melissa Henville and Myeshia Bennett. For the founding members, how EXCITING to affect change in the community of which they live. For the Community, this Zeta chapter will mean MORE caring hearts and hands providing citizens with the tools to help them improve themselves ~ their lives, health, and overall well being.
